- Ada Lovelace is famously known for her work on Charles Babbage‘s mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She was the first to recognize that the machine was capable of doing more than it was intended to, and created the first algorithm for this type of machine. As a result, she is often regarded as the first computer programmer.
